Best place to start is with the hat style. There is a variety of colors and styles to choose from. Do you like the structured trucker hats or the soft, unstructured 'dad' hats? Rounded or flat bill? Mesh back for increased ventilation or solid back to help shield from sunburn? Lastly, there is the hat material itself. The standard hats are usually a poly/cotton blend or 100% cotton. But for fishing, there is a third option that is my favorite!
Here in Southern California, ocean fishing is a lifestyle. This means lots of wind and spray. The sun is hot and the work is sweaty!
